The Northwestern Medicine Proton Center is the first proton therapy center in Illinois to bring this precise radiation treatment to patients. Our team of experienced radiation oncologists and highly skilled medical professionals are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. The Center is equipped with state-of-the-art proton therapy technology, including:

  • Four treatment rooms: two inclined-beam rooms, a fixed beam room, and a 360° gantry room
  • Pencil beam scanning technology to treat more complex tumors close to critical structures
  • Real-time imaging technology in treatment rooms to optimize treatment precision, including cone beam computer technology in our 360° gantry room
  • A robotic patient-positioning system that adjusts automatically for position and immobilization
  • Computed tomography (“CT”) imaging technology, for use in treatment planning including a dual energy CT
  • A vertical CT scanner and custom designed treatment chair, minimizing patient movement and allowing proton beams to be delivered more effectively
